Thread Pitch Gages and Radius Gages

Thread pitch gages, or thread gages, are simple yet essential tools for identifying the pitch of a fastener’s threads. They feature a variety of different “leaves”, each marked with a specific size. To measure a fastener, fit a leaf into its threads until they match. Thread pitch gages are useful for identifying thread pitch and determining the tolerance of the thread.

Radius gages are built similarly to thread pitch gages. However, these leaves are used to measure the radius of an object. These gages can be used to check the internal and external radii of different curved edges.

Gear Module Inspection and Identification Gages

We supply both inspection gages and identification gages. These measurement tools quickly determine a gear’s module and are used by matching the tooth spacing and profile against a reference to verify the correct gear pitch and pressure angle.

Thread Measuring Wires

Thread measuring wires are sets of three precision wires, made to precise tolerances, that are used with a micrometer to determine pitch diameter. The three wires are placed into the thread grooves and then measured with the micrometer to record a highly accurate measurement. These tools are the preferred solution when precise tolerances are critical for quality control.

Precision end measuring rods or “standards” are used for setting micrometers of 50mm capacity or larger. They are used on machine tools for comparing gages and measuring parallel surfaces.

Thread Plug Gages and Thread Ring Gages

Thread plug and ring gages are used to verify the accuracy of threads. Plug gages have external threads and are used to check the size of internal threads, while ring gages have internal threads and are used to confirm the size of external threads. Both plug and ring gages are offered in two-piece sets, often referred to as Go/No-Go gages:
  • Go Gages: These gages fit smoothly onto or into the finished thread without force.
  • No-Go Gages: These gages should not permit more than two turns of thread.

Why Use Thread Gages and Measurement Tools?

Reliable thread inspection is critical to safety and performance in industrial settings. Precision measuring tools assist in many ways:
  • Quickly identifying pitch
  • Measuring wires for precision diameter checks
  • Pass/fail tolerance verification
  • Analyzing standards for calibration and accuracy
  • Ensuring quality control in manufacturing applications
