Sockets & Accessories
Metric & Multistandard Components Corp. supplies a variety of metric sockets and socket accessories. A socket is a tool with an internal square drive that is used to turn a fastener with the use of a socket wrench. Metric sockets use the same size square drives that are used on inch sockets and therefore can be used on the same exact socket wrenches.
The different size socket drives that are available are: 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4", 1”, 1-1/2” and 2-1/2”
Sockets typically come with either a 6 or 12 point female recess that fit over the head of a bolt or nut. A 6 point socket will only fit on a hexagonal shaped head. A 12 point socket will fit on hexagonal head or a 12 point head. Sockets are generally available in standard depth or deep. Deep sockets are used to turn nuts that are not reachable with a standard depth socket.
There are also tools with male drive bits that are used with socket wrenches. These tools are used on fasteners with an internal drive socket, such as a hexagon or TORX socket. Common names for these are hex bit socket or TORX bit socket even though they technically not sockets.
Sockets are intended to be used with a hand powered socket wrench unless they were made specifically to be used with a power drive tool. Such sockets are called Impact Drive or Power Drive.
There are many types of socket wrenches, socket extensions, socket adapters and socket accessories available which are designed to increase the usefulness and the effectiveness of socket tools.
Metric & Multistandard Components Corp. offers socket tooling both as individual items and in socket tool sets.
